Happy Friday, November 4th, 6-1 Families!
2nd quarter interims were handed out to students by their homeroom teacher today. The interims include the grades listed in PowerSchools for the student’s whole schedule. Please review, sign, and return to homeroom teachers by Monday, November 7th.
Some important schedule reminders for next week. On Tuesday, November 8th, all WCPSS schools will be operating on a 2-Hour Delay schedule due to Election Day. Students may begin entering the campus at 9am on that day. Dismissal will still be at 2:15pm. Also, on Friday, November 11th, we will be observing Veterans’ Day. There will be NO school that day.
Beginning November 1st, ECMS is holding its annual Fall Food Drive to support the Wake Relief Food Bank in downtown Raleigh. Students can bring in non-perishable food items to their homeroom class collection box. The Food Drive will run until November 23rd. Please consider donating especially at this holiday time of the year, as well as, in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.
ECMS is need of volunteers for Science Fair Judges in December and January. Please see the attached document for more information about the responsibilities of science fair judges. If you are interested in helping out or getting more information, please contact Mrs. Shandua Ellis, our STEM coordinator/Assistant Principal at firstname.lastname@example.org .
Lastly, we encourage both students and parents to review our teacher websites for lessons, homework, and resources. We update our websites daily and weekly.
Math 6/6+ (Mr. Hayes) – The Unit Test on Algebraic Expressions has been moved from Monday, November 7th to Tuesday, November 8th. Students will start a new unit on Wednesday – Unit 7: Equations and Inequalities.
Science (Ms. Haynie) – Students began an in-class project on Photosynthesis this past Wednesday. This project will be a MAJOR grade for 2nd quarter. Completing the project will also take place of much of their learning for photosynthesis. This project will be due by the end of class on Wednesday, November 9th and much of the work will be done in class.
Students should be finishing up Part CDof their Science Fair project this weekend. Next week, students should begin on actually completing their experiments and collecting data. Please see Parts E and F in the Science Fair packet for more details and examples. Once again, students do not have turn in each part as they finish but they are welcome to give it to Ms. Haynie to give them some feedback/corrections to make before the final product is due on Thursday, December 1st. Students may share their Google documents or e-mail attachments Ms. Haynie to review.
Social Studies (Mr. Miller) – On Tuesday, November 8th there will be a binder check. Students should have all of their papers organized in their binders. They need to be in order to be graded, extra papers can be found in my class binder at the front of my room. As a joint project with ELA, we will be doing our project based learning assignment called, Doing Business with the Greek gods. All details will be given on Monday, November 7th in class. The projects will be presented on Thursday, November 17th. Most of the work for this project will be completed during the school day.
ELA (Mrs. Gilliland) – Next week, students will use their ELA class time to work on our cross-curricular PBL. They will form groups on Monday and spend the remainder of the week conducting research and working on their products. For homework, students should read for at least 25 minutes each night.
