ECMS 6-1 Weekly Update (Track-in Edition): September 30th, 2016

Posted on

Happy Friday, September 30th, 6-1 Families!

We hope you have enjoyed your September trackout! A break was much needed with all the hard work that was put into first quarter.  We look forward to a busy yet exciting 2nd quarter with everyone.

ECMS is currently holding their Fall Book Fair in the Media Center.  It will be going on until the end of the day on Friday, October 7th. School Book Fair hours for Oct. 3rd – 7th are 7:30am-3:00pm.  Please feel free to stop by after school with your student to make purchases.  You can also send your student in with money.  They will be receiving Book Fair flyers in ELA on Monday.

Friday, October 7th is our next STEM Elective day.  Students should be prepared with the necessary materials for their particular elective.  Once again, these electives are an additional class every 3 weeks.

Lastly, we encourage both students and parents to review our teacher websites for lessons, homework, and resources.  We update our websites daily and weekly.

CORE Updates

Science (Ms. Haynie) –  On Monday, students will receive their Science Fair information packets.  This is a quarter-long project that will be primarily done OUTSIDE of school.  Ms. Haynie will help students pick testable (Part A of the packet) and grade-level appropriate topics and will also help guide students on researching their topics (Part C of the packet). The rest will need to be done on their own time. Students are allowed to work on their own or to pick one other 6-1 student to work with.  If students choose to work in pairs, each student will need to fill out the Partner Contract (last page of packet) and get a parent to sign.

Due by Friday, October 7th: Topic approved (Part A) and Partner Contract if applicable.

Starting this quarter there will be homework every week, so make sure your child has it or download it from my website.

ELA (Mrs. Gilliland) – We will begin Quarter 2 with a mini-unit on poetry, focusing on inferring the meaning of figurative language. On Thursday, we will visit the Book Fair; students may bring money if they would like to purchase books.
