ECMS 6-1 Weekly Update: September 2nd, 2016

Posted on

Happy Friday, September 2nd, 6-1 Families!

We have made it to the end of the 1st Quarter! Yay! We have had a blast getting to know your students and having them transition into middle school with us this quarter.  Next quarter, we are kicking it up a notch as students understand the ECMS and 6-1 expectations and procedures.

This past Tuesday, students received information about our 1st field trip this school year.  Please see our previous post for more information.  All field trip forms and money are due by Friday, September 9th.  We are so thankful for your support in sponsoring students so that all have the same opportunity to attend.  We’ve received an overwhelming number of sponsors already so we should be all set to make sure all 103 students go on our field trip.  If a need arises for more sponsors, we will definitely reach out to those who have offered to sponsor a student.

Next Friday, September 9th is our Trackout Day but it is also our next Early Release Day.  School will dismiss at 11:45am.  Students will go to their 4 core classes, eat lunch, and then go home. Report cards will be given to students in homeroom that day.  Students should place them in their Homework Folders to give to you.  Report cards DO NOT need to be signed or returned.  They are your copy to keep.

CORE Updates

Math 6/6+ (Mr. Hayes) –  Unit 5: Integers and Rational Number on the Number Line.  We will review fraction/decimal/percent conversions at start of unit. We will also introduce how to convert fractions to decimals, fractions to percents, and decimals to percents. No Quiz or Test this week.  Have a great Track out.

Compact Math Class (Mr. Hayes) – Please finish up any Quarter 1 tasks.   Quarter 2 Packets will be handed out on Thursday.

Science (Ms. Haynie) –  This trackout week, we will finish up talking about rocks and the rock cycle.  We will take our 1st Quarter Science Benchmark on Thursday, September 8th on devices.  This is not for a formal grade but helps to gauge what students mastered during the first nine weeks.

Social Studies (Mr. Miller) – On Tuesday Ms. Ray-Nobles will be with us to talk about organization. On Wednesday, we will have our Social Studies Benchmark, it is not for a grade, but just a diagnostic tool for teachers to see how we can improve our teaching across the grade level. We have had a wonderful first quarter studying geography!

ELA (Mrs. Gilliland) – On Wednesday, students will take the Quarter 1 Benchmark on devices. This is not for a grade, but will help to show students’ progress with reading standards as we prepare for Quarter 2. On Thursday, students will visit the media center for circulation. This will be our final opportunity to return or renew library books before tracking out.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback.

Have a great weekend!
