Happy Friday, February 19th, 6-1 Families!
We’ve had another exciting week on 6-1! Monday’s “snow” day will be made up tomorrow, Saturday, February 20th. Things to remember for Saturday School:
1) Arrival time is like a normal school day. Bell rings at 7:00am to enter the buildings.
2) Dismissal is at 11:00am.
3) No lunch or breakfast will be served but students may bring a snack.
4) Students should plan to have all their core classes and both electives tomorrow. The schedule has the potential to change from the last Saturday school so students should be prepared to see all their teachers.
5) Let the teachers know in advance if your student will not be attending school on Saturday. Attendance is taken and students are responsible for the work they miss.
Please continue monitoring grades as we near the end of the quarter. As a team, we still have quite a few missing assignments. Remember, in Powerschools, missing assignments are indicated with the gold square. Those assignments need to be taken care of ASAP. Once again, if you do not see a grade (ex. –/100), that means the teacher is in the process of grading it. It is only missing if the gold square symbol is next to the assignment. The symbol legend is at the bottom of the grade page. If you are having any issues or still have not signed up for a PowerSchools account, please visit this website for more information: http://www.wcpss.net/domain/69
All missing work is due by Friday, February 26th in order to be counted towards the student’s 3rd Quarter grades. Assignments not turned in by this time will remain the grade of zero for that particular assignment.
Have you signed up for our Remind text messages this year? If not, please use the document below. We use this to send out important reminders for the week and for school announcements. Expect to receive at least one text message per school day. We also use Remind to send out important information about delays and cancellations.
Thank you to everyone who sent in boxes of tissues in the past week. I believe we now have enough to last us until June.
Next Friday, February 26th is our next STEM Elective day. Students should bring any necessary materials for their particular elective.
Math 6/6+ (Mr. Hayes) – Students are continuing with practicing measurements, perimeter, area, and circumference of polygons. They will have a Quiz on these concepts on Thursday, February 25th.
Science (Mr. Yang/Ms.Haynie) – The Element Superheroes and Supervillains project was due today. Those projects will be graded and uploaded into PowerSchools at the end of next week. Students have a Group Quiz on Monday, February 22nd on the Phases/States of Matter. They also have a paragraph and a picture about the Northern Lights due to Ms. Haynie by Wednesday, Feb. 24th.
Please see the flyer below for another great STEM opportunity for interested students at the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center in Chapel Hill.
Social Studies (Mr. Miller) – We are in the middle of our Ancient Africa Unit. We will be taking a test on Ancient Africa on February 25th. All missing work can be found on my website and needs to be turned in on Friday, February 26th.
Please check your child’s grades ASAP!
ELA (Ms. Chappell) – Next week, we will shift our focus from short fiction to poetry. We will analyze poetic structure, poetic devices, and figurative language.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback.
