ECMS 6-1 Weekly Update: January 22nd, 2016 (Snow Day Edition)

Posted on

Happy Friday, January 22nd, 6-1 Families!

We hope everyone had a great week and is staying warm and safe during today’s snow day! WCPSS has announced that this snow day will be made up on Saturday, April 2nd.  We will send more information about ECMS Make-up Day procedures as we approach that day.

Also, on snow days, 6-1 teachers like to review with students.  We have encouraged students to jump on the 6-1 Team Edmodo group around 9am.  We like to make it fun yet educational.  We have incentives up for grabs for those that participate.  It is not mandatory but a great option to review content and keep the students entertained.

CORE Updates

Math 6/6+ (Mr. Hayes) – The Unit 9 Test on Percent and Measurement has been re-scheduled for Monday, January 25th.  Students should review their Unit 9 Study Guide given to them earlier this week.

Science (Ms. Haynie) –  The 2nd Quarter Science Benchmark will need to be re-scheduled.  It will be made up sometime in the near future.  We will send out a new date soon.  The Benchmark will definitely NOT be on Monday.  Benchmarks are formative and do NOT get factored into the student’s grade.

Our wonderful student teacher, Mr. Yang, will begin teaching the science classes on Monday with the start of our Chemistry “Matter” Unit.  He plans his lessons with my guidance so all content will be covered.  He will continue teaching throughout the remainder of the quarter under my supervision.

Social Studies (Mr. Miller) – We are in week 2 of our European Middle Ages unit. Students should be researching which three vocabulary words they will do their research on. The final project is due on Feb. 11.

ELA (Ms. Chappell) – Next week, we will finish reading Flush and conclude our literature circles. AIG students will continue to meet with Mrs. Cornejo.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback.
