Happy Friday, October 30th, 6-1 Families!
We had a great time during Spirit Week this week! Next week marks the middle of the 2nd quarter. Interims will be sent home by the end of the week in each core class.
Also, our ECMS Annual Food Drive starts on Monday, Nov. 2nd and runs through Friday, Nov. 20th. Students should bring non-perishable food items to the collection box in their homeroom class. All donations will be taken to Wake Relief Food Pantry just in time for the holidays.
Travel interest letters were also sent home on Tuesday with students. ECMS went to Costa Rica this past June and will be traveling to England, Ireland, and Wales in March 2017. An interest/informational meeting will be held in the Media Center on Tuesday, November 3rd at 5pm. If you can’t make it or would like more information, please send Ms. Haynie an e-mail as she is one of the teachers who takes the students abroad.
Math 6/6+ (Mr. Hayes) – Students are finishing up Unit 6 – Expressions and Algebraic Functions on Tuesday, November 3rd with a Unit Test. They will start Unit 7, Equations and Equalities, on Wednesday.
Science (Ms. Haynie) – We started learning about Photosynthesis this week. Our plant unit will continue next week and will conclude with a Unit Test taken on Friday, November 13th and a PBL on bees starting the week of Nov. 16th. Both will be MAJOR grades for the 2nd quarter.
Students should be finishing up their Part C of their Science Fair project and moving on to Part D to stay on track. Once again, students are welcome to ask me for feedback/corrections on any part of their packet at any time. The final grade will once again be based on their final project board that is due Wednesday, Dec. 2nd. All information can be found on Ms. Haynie’s Teacher Website: http://mshayniescience.weebly.com . Students will not have any other scheduled time to work on these projects in class. They can use homeroom time and working lunch as in-school time if needed. All other work will need to be completed at home.
Social Studies (Mr. Miller) – We are currently working through our Ancient Rome Unit. All materials are available on the website. The Rome History Bingo project is due on November 16th.
ELA (Ms. Chappell) – Next week in ELA, we will be exploring text features and using comprehension strategies flexibly while reading nonfiction text. Dialectical Journal #6 will be due on Friday, November 6.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback.
Have a great weekend and don’t forget to “Fall Back” on Sunday as Daylight Savings Time ends!
