Happy Friday, October 9th, 6-1 Families!

We have hit the ground running for 2nd Quarter.  Please help students in keeping up with various projects and assessments that are upcoming this quarter.  Students, and parents, should use our 6-1 Team website calendar as a reference.

1st Quarter Honor Roll certificates are being given out to students today.  6-1 has Semester Celebrations, with families included, scheduled for Friday, January 15th and Friday, June 3rd.  More information will be available as we get closer to those dates.

Next Friday, October 16th will be our next Early Release Day with school dismissing at 11:45am.  Breakfast and lunch are served.  This particular Early Release will be our annual STEM Career Day for Track 1.  Students will have the opportunity to hear from 4 different STEM-related professionals and be involved in other STEM activities.  It is always a fun day!

CORE Updates

Math 6/6+ (Mr. Hayes) –  Students are working towards Unit 5 Integer which includes Integer Operations (addition, subtraction, divisions, multiplication.

Unit 5 Test is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 19th

Science (Ms. Haynie) – This week we reviewed for the 1st Quarter Benchmark and spent a few days talking about Soil.  Next week, we will spend the week talking about Flowering Plants.  We will be doing a Flower Dissection Lab on Wednesday and will need some flowers donated.  We’ve done this in the spring in the past so it was easier to get flowers.  Lillies are the best for this particular lab.  If you can donate flowers, please send them in with your student on Wednesday, Oct. 14th.

Science Topics should have been approved by the end of the day today.  Students who have not yet decided on a topic will need to see me ASAP.  Part B (Title and Testable Question) are due by Friday, Oct. 16th for feedback.  All information can be found on Ms. Haynie’s Teacher Website: http://mshayniescience.weebly.com

Social Studies (Mr. Miller) – We will begin our Ancient Greece PBL on Monday, in collaboration with ELA classes. Project details will be passed out Monday, the due date for the business plan and advertisement is October 23rd. Students will be able to complete most of the PBL during class time, unless they get behind. See my website for more details on Monday!

ELA (Ms. Chappell) – Next week, we will be conducting research and working on our Ancient Greece PBL in collaboration with Social Studies. Dialectical Journals are due on Monday, 10/12. They can be submitted as hard copies or Google forms; both are available at mschappellela.wordpress.com. Please continue to bring in your writing notebooks!
