Happy Friday, August 28th, 6-1 Families!
Wow! How quickly time flies! We are down to our last week of the 1st quarter already. Report cards will be issued at the end of the day on Friday, September 4th. Just a reminder that Friday, Sept. 4th is also an Early Release Day with school dismissing at 11:45am. Lunch and breakfast will be served. Students will track back in for 2nd quarter on Thursday, October 1st.
We are looking for reams of 11”x17” computer paper for an upcoming project. Please send in next week if you are able to help us out. Thank you in advance!
Math 6/6+ (Mr. Hayes) – Today, students received their Test Study Guide for Tuesday’s (Sept. 1st) test on Operations of Fractions. Students will continue working on this study guide on Monday in class.
Science (Ms. Haynie) – Students have been investigating the differences between minerals and rocks this week. We will continue our discussion of rocks and talk about what soil is next week. Students will have a quiz on Thursday, Sept. 3rd on Minerals, Rocks, and Soil. This grade will be first quiz grade on 2nd quarter. On Friday, we will take all the 1st Quarter Science papers out of their binders and place them in a Science Folder that will stay in our classroom until the end of the year. I will give folders back at the end of the year.
Social Studies (Mr. Miller) – We have nearly wrapped up the first quarter. On Tuesday, we will have Ms. Ray-Nobles, our 6th grade counselor in to speak with all classes. On Wednesday, we will have our 1st Quarter Benchmark, which will not be a grade, it is just for instructional purposes. On Thursday, we will be working through some Reader’s Theater Scripts.
It has been a great quarter, I have been so impressed by your children!
ELA (Ms. Chappell) – Next week, we will wrap up our unit on metacognition and comprehension monitoring. Over track out, students should continue to read and track their thinking daily. When we return for Quarter 2, we will begin Writer’s Workshop. Please bring a composition book to use as a writer’s notebook.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback.
Thanks again for all your support this quarter! We can’t wait to see what the next quarter has in store for the 6-1 Team Green Machine.
