Happy Friday, July 17th, 6-1 Families!

We’ve had another awesome week with your students! Please sign up for the e-mail notifications using the directions at the bottom of the page.  All of the links to the individual teachers’ websites can be found on our Team Website as well.  After this week, we will only be posting our weekly updates to the Team Website blog.

CORE Updates

Math 6/6+ (Mr. Hayes) –   On Monday, July 20th, we will be completing the Unit 1 Test. We will begin Unit 2 which will focus on Least Common Multiples, Greatest Common Factors and Prime Factorization. This unit will last approximately instructional days.  Unit 1 Quiz scores will be sent home with students and Unit 1 Study Guide on Thursday, July 16th.

Science (Ms. Haynie) – This past week we spent time talking about science safety, identifying variables, and the scientific method.  A quiz was given in class today.  Next week, students will begin learning about the Layers of the Earth.  Due to Ms. Haynie’s immediate family being on Track 4, she will be out next week traveling with her family.  Mrs. Aldred, a retired ECMS TA, will be our wonderful science substitute.  Students will be given a work packet on Monday.  They will need to complete the assignments with Mrs. Aldred each day.  These packets will be turned in on Monday, July 27th.  A copy of the work packet can be found on Ms. Haynie’s teacher website:  http://mshayniescience.weebly.com/

Social Studies (Mr. Miller) – This past week, the students took a quiz on the Five Themes of Geography. If you would like to see their results, have them login to Edmodo and you can see their results. Today, they should have one part of their Cartographer’s Challenge complete. Please initial their paper. They may do the assignment in any order, but it all has to be turned in on August 6th.  http://www.mrmiller.info

ELA (A Fabulous Teacher to be Named Soon) – Mrs. Davis, in collaboration with the 6-1 team, is working very hard in getting a permanent ELA teacher.  In the meantime, we’ve been blessed to have Mrs. Ford, a certified ELA teacher, helping us out this week and next week.  Students have been talking about elements of fiction and non-fiction texts.

Thank you so much for all the wonderful e-mail feedback.  We really appreciate all your support on the home front.  Again, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.  Don’t forget, “Meet the Teacher” Night is on Tuesday, July 21st from 5:45pm-7:45pm.  Mr. Hayes and Mr. Miller look forward to telling you more about ECMS and our 6-1 Team Green Machine!

With excitement,

Lauren Haynie (LHAYNIE@wcpss.net)

Chad Miller (CMILLER@wcpss.net)

Mike Hayes (MHAYES@wcpss.net)
